Good afternoon, team FM.

When we launched our Strategic Plan, we identified two key initiatives within the strategic priority, “Improve Communication & Collaboration: Translation Services & Language Training.” I am happy to share some significant progress we're making on these initiatives.

Approximately 20% of our team members communicate primarily in a language other than English which can sometimes be challenging. Because it’s so important to ensure that all staff receive equitable access to information, we have increased our translation efforts:

• Our FM All-hands meetings now feature live in-person translation
• We have added a translation button to the FM website
• Translation services are available during FM job interviews
• Important FM communications, including my emails to all staff, are now provided in both English and Spanish.

As a next step, and to further improve communication and collaboration, we will provide staff with training opportunities to sharpen their English language and communications skills. We have partnered with EnGen to offer free English Online training for all staff.  EnGen is a virtual English language learning platform which allows users to participate in self-paced, interest-based lessons at any time. The platform offers training courses for all skill levels of English proficiency, from beginner to advanced.

To encourage participation, staff who enroll in the program will receive full support, including 90 minutes of work release time each week, to take lessons. Technical support and other resources will also be available.

Cuando nosotros lanzamos nuestro Plan Estratégico, identificamos dos iniciativas clave dentro de la prioridad “Mejorar Comunicación y Colaboración: Servicios de Traducción y Entrenamiento Lingüístico”. Me complace compartir algunos avances significativos que estamos realizando en estas iniciativas.

Cerca de 20% de los miembros de nuestro equipo se comunican principalmente en una lengua distinta al inglés, lo que a veces puede suponer un reto. Como es tan importante asegurar que toda la plantilla reciba el mismo acceso a la información, hemos incrementado nuestros esfuerzos de traducción:

• Nuestras reuniones FM All-hands cuentan ahora con traducción en directo
• Hemos añadido un botón de traducción al sitio de internet de FM
• Se ofrece servicios de traducción durante las entrevistas de trabajo de FM
• Las comunicaciones importantes de FM, incluidos mis correos electrónicos a toda la plantilla, se realizan en inglés y español.

Como siguiente paso, y para mejorar aún más la comunicación y la colaboración, daremos al personal oportunidades de formación para perfeccionar sus conocimientos de inglés y comunicación. Nos hemos asociado con EnGen para ofrecer formación gratuita en inglés en línea a todo el personal.  EnGen es una plataforma virtual de aprendizaje de inglés que permite a los usuarios participar en cualquier momento en lecciones a su propio ritmo y basadas en sus intereses. La plataforma ofrece cursos de formación para todos los niveles de inglés, desde principiantes hasta avanzados.

Para fomentar la participación, el personal que se inscriba en el programa recibirá pleno apoyo, incluidos 90 minutos semanales de tiempo libre para tomar clases. También se dispondrá de apoyo técnico y otros recursos.
