OM&U and BL&M Unit Reorganization

Subject: OM&U and BL&M Unit Reorganization

Good morning FM,

Over the past few months, Kristy Long, Executive Director of OM&U, Karen Petroff, Acting Executive Director of B&LM, and our FMHR team have been working with FM staff on an internal reorganization.

The reorganization moves positions in Area & Classroom Maintenance which were previously part of B&LM to the OM&U unit. Another area of the reorganization unifies Surfaces and Horizontal work that was split between Landscape Services and Facilities Maintenance Programs under Landscape Services.

The new structure reduces work overlap and the duplication of effort that were common with the old structure and supports a more efficient use of both our human and budget resources. We believe the new structure will also provide opportunities for collaboration between Area and Classroom Maintenance staff, OM&U Facility Managers, and the Shops.

It was important to us that no FM staff members lost jobs due to this reorganization and that staff who were impacted by this change continue to work in the same or similar positions in their new units.

Although all positions were maintained and an effort has been made to ease this transition, we understand that any kind of move can feel stressful and present some unknowns. If you are a team member impacted by the reorganization and have concerns or questions, please reach out to your team leader, your unit’s Executive Director, or FMHR. And if a new team member has moved to your unit, please offer a warm welcome.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this organizational change as seamless as possible.

Sincerely,

Bob Reuning
