Meet the Interim AVP: Kristy Long

Kristy Long

What influenced you to accept the position of Interim AVP?
The people in Facilities Management!  I consider the opportunity to work in this capacity with all of FM to be an immense privilege.

How has your prior work experience helped you prepare for this role?
Working for 30 years combined at the National Institutes of Health and the Architect of the Capitol gave me the facilities experience in both a research campus and facilities in a politically high-level arena.  Dealing with planning, construction, O&M, grounds and finance has prepped me well for this role and has it given me a great appreciation for what our front line staff encounter every day.

What are your immediate priorities as Interim AVP?
I want to focus on the continuation of the tremendous work we accomplish with an emphasis on the successful completion of initiatives that are on the immediate horizon.  This includes our Assetworks, Customer Service Training and our role in WorkDay, all of which are key to our future successes.

What do you see as the biggest challenges and opportunities facing FM in the coming year?
Faced with financial limitations, we will need to do more with less.  I am always impressed with the talent in FM and the creative way our staff manage to solve extremely difficult problems.  I will view all our challenges as an opportunity to solve a problem and focus our energy on what we can control as opposed to what we cannot control.

What initiatives or projects are you most excited about in your role as Interim AVP?
I am most excited about the efforts our staff will accomplish in support of our Strategic Plan.  From the everyday routine efforts to large unique projects, there will be opportunities within those efforts for all of us to play a role in reaching our strategic goals.

When you aren’t working, what can we catch you doing?
I enjoy my hobby of beekeeping.  However, I also enjoy my down time of just relaxing on the couch, watching an old movie or episode of an old television series while my cats curl up with me.
