The Top 3 Things You Need to Know About SHIFT

FM Shift

1. What is SHIFT?
SHIFT is a new technology-driven approach to connect campus customers with facilities operations to get repair work completed quickly and efficiently.

The Shared Integrated Facility Technology Project (SHIFT) refers to a shared facilities integrated workplace management system (IWMS) that will support facilities operations across the UMD campus including Facilities Management, Department of Residential Facilities, Dining Services, RecWell, and Stamp.

Here’s how it will work: Need to request a fix for a broken door handle, a burned-out light, etc.? The new system will provide a customer portal where customers can quickly and easily enter and track a work request. The system will seamlessly route that request to the appropriate service group. Technicians in the field will use a custom mobile app for receiving and managing requests – even ordering parts.

The system will also manage the university space inventory, track assets, and modernize warehouse operations.

2. When will SHIFT launch?
Phase 1, which includes the customer portal and mobile app for technicians is scheduled to go live on May 31, 2024. Space management, inventory tracking, and warehouse operations will also launch at this time.

3. When will training begin?
No training is needed for customers. Using the customer portal will be easy to navigate and intuitive to use.

Staff training is planned for this coming April and May. Training will be conducted in person in meeting rooms and computer labs, depending on the function. Sessions will be relatively short and simple – two hours in length. Information regarding training will be shared with specific work groups as plans are finalized.

Before full staff training, some team members will participate in train-the-trainer workshops to facilitate ongoing training over time.
