Subject: Two New Leaders in Building & Landscape Maintenance

Greetings Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the recent appointment of two new leaders from within our existing staff. After competitive search processes, Building & Landscape Maintenance has promoted Scott Rupert to the position of Associate Director, Arboretum and Landscape Services, and Joel Manspeaker to Assistant Director, Landscape Services and Auxiliary Shops.

Scott Rupert has over 30 years of industry experience including 11 years in support of the University of Maryland Arboretum as part of the management team and contractor teams. As an ISA Certified Arborist with Tree Risk Assessment Qualification and a graduate of UMD with a BS in Horticulture, he is well positioned to continue the work of the ArbNet Level 4 internationally accredited campus-wide arboretum in service of university and FM missions. His extensive experience in project management and his work with academic, administrative, and residential partners have prepared him for the continued pursuit of excellence in all landscape operations.

Joel Manspeaker also brings over 30 years of industry experience and 18 years of University of Maryland management service to this critical role in strategic leadership for landscape infrastructure including roads and bridges, fountains and irrigation, pest control, construction support, and welding and equipment repair.  With a BS in Landscape Design from UMD, as well as extensive experience in resource allocation, staff and contract management, construction, and administration, Joel brings demonstrated talents to bear on FM strategic objectives.

Please join me in welcoming Scott and Joel to their new roles. They can be reached at srupert@umd.edu and jmanspea@umd.edu respectively.

Sincerely,

Bob
