Good Morning FM,

I am reaching out today to share the results of the 2023 Powered by People Survey. An impressive 59% of FM staff responded to the survey, representing a 7% increase from 2022. A huge thank you to everyone who participated. You can view the survey responses on the survey dashboard

Areas of greatest improvement:
Based on results from our first survey launched in the spring of 2022, we identified key themes and opportunities for action. An update on the progress we've made on some of those key action items is provided below:

  • Appreciation and Recognition: 57% believe FM effectively recognizes staff, up from 43% in 2022. We introduced FM Shines and reinstated the annual appreciation luncheon.
  • Communication: 69% believe that information is easily available, up from 59% in 2022. We launched the FM People Power newsletter and revamped the FM website.
  • Development and Training: Reinstating pre-pandemic funding for staff training and development allowed us to double our professional development spending in FY23.

Opportunities for action:
Your feedback in this year’s Powered by People survey also revealed opportunities for action in the following areas:

  • Development and Training: Although we have increased professional development resources, 37% of survey respondents want more training and development opportunities. 
  • Promotional Opportunities: We’ve connected staff to more career-building resources, however 53% of respondents don’t believe that promotional opportunities are based on merit and tenure. 
  • New Employee Engagement: 40% of respondents have been with FM for less than five years. This is up from 32% in 2022. We will identify programs and initiatives to develop and increase engagement with this group of staff.  

The Powered by People Survey is an important tool that provides valuable insights related to employee engagement and job satisfaction. We use information drawn from the survey to guide our Strategic Plan and will continue to conduct the survey every 12-18 months to measure our progress.
