Flu Season Reminder

Greetings FM,

Before winter break, the University Health Center shared that flu activity was increasing locally and nationwide. As we begin the spring semester, flu cases continue to rise. The flu is a contagious respiratory illness that typically comes on suddenly with high fever, body aches, headache, and cough.

To help protect yourself and others, please keep these reminders in mind:

  • Consider getting a flu shot if you haven’t already—it’s not too late.
  • Wear a mask if you’re experiencing cold or flu symptoms.
  • Cough into your sleeve or a tissue, not directly into your hands.
  • Wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer.
  • Clean high-touch surfaces with disinfectant.
  • Avoid touching your face, as this spreads germs.
  • Avoid sharing food, utensils, cups, and water bottles.

If you’re sick, stay home when possible and avoid crowded spaces to help prevent spreading illness.

Most people can manage symptoms with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter fever reducers. In some cases, prescription antiviral medication may be recommended, but it must be started early. Please consult your personal physician or the University Health Center for guidance.

Thank you for helping keep FM and our campus community healthy.
