Hello Team FM,
It’s hard to believe I’m already into my third week with FM. The days have been busy and have flown by, but I want to pause here to say thank you to everyone who has extended a warm welcome and helped me begin to get acquainted with FM and the university. I’ve been meeting with colleagues across FM and the division and getting a sense of the range of work FM does and the expertise and commitment it takes to keep this campus running. I am genuinely honored to be here and serve FM and the University of Maryland. I step into this role at a time of both challenge and opportunity, and I’m excited about what we can accomplish together as a team.
I’m looking forward to getting out to your units over the next few weeks, getting to know your teams and hearing about the work you do — what’s working well, where we have challenges, and where we have opportunities to become even better. I’m genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say and learning from your experiences.
It’s too soon for me to talk about a vision for FM’s future, but I do know the kind of organization I hope that we can be: a team that supports one another and is grounded in trust, commitment and kindness. For me, that means being open and honest with one another, being committed to our work and our teammates, and looking out for each other.
I’m looking forward to meeting many more of you in the weeks ahead. I’m excited to be here and to get to work alongside you.
Tom
