UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND NEXTGEN PROGRAM APPROVED, DESIGNATED AS PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland NextGen Energy Program, approved by the State of Maryland Board of Public Works at its April 22 meeting, has been designated as a public-private partnership. The NextGen Energy Program RFQ is scheduled to be published on eMaryland Marketplace on April 27, 2020.
“This is a key milestone in renewing and modernizing our systems to ensure that the University of Maryland can depend on resilient and efficient energy for decades to come,” says University of Maryland Vice President for Administration and Finance Carlo Colella. “NextGen will play a critical role in supporting the University’s mission of providing excellent teaching, research and service. We look forward to working alongside the State, our university community, and all interested stakeholders as the process continues to move forward.”
The NextGen energy infrastructure program builds on the university’s environmental commitment and supports efforts, immediately and in the future, to achieve carbon neutrality. The program is highly adaptable, allowing the University of Maryland to incorporate the new, high-efficiency technologies of today while providing flexibility to utilize the technologies of tomorrow. “The University of Maryland is committed to being a responsible steward of our financial and shared resources, including the air, water, and land we all rely on every day,” says Colella. “By leveraging public-private partnerships, the NextGen program will secure an innovative, effective, and financially efficient approach for our university.”
