Preparing for Fall: Key Campus Dates and Safety Reminders
Greetings Team FM,
As we get ready to welcome students back for the fall semester, I know many of you are hard at work preparing campus for their arrival. Thank you for everything you're doing behind the scenes to help ensure our students, faculty, staff, and visitors have a safe and welcoming start to the academic year.
In the weeks ahead, campus will become busier as residence hall move-in and Fall Welcome events bring thousands of students, families, and visitors to campus. As you're working across campus, please be extra mindful of increased pedestrian, vehicle, bicycle, scooter and other micromobility traffic. If you're driving, slow down, allow extra travel time and watch carefully at crosswalks, intersections and building entrances.
If you're working outdoors or near campus buildings, please remember our Wheels Off Walkways (WOW) protocol by helping keep sidewalks, loading areas and building entrances clear whenever possible. These simple steps help everyone move safely through campus during one of our busiest times of the year.
For planning purposes, please keep these key dates in mind:
August 27–29: Residence Hall Move-In Days
August 27–30: Fall Welcome events
August 31- First Day of Classes
A complete schedule of move-in and fall activities is available on the FM website.
Thank you for everything you do to support the University of Maryland community. Please stay alert, stay safe, and look out for those around you. Your efforts help ensure a smooth and welcoming start to the semester.
Best,
Bill
