Michael Bruce is a long-time FM employee, currently a Supervisor III on OM&U’s Area Maintenance team.
How long have you been with FM? It will be thirty years this January 3.
Please describe what you do in your position for someone who might not be familiar with the role. I supervise twelve mechanics in Facilities Management. We maintain the academic buildings and we are the first responders to address or coordinate any issues we find or work tasks we are given.
What do you enjoy most about your work? Working with people.
Where did you grow up? Arlington, Fairfax, Falls Church, and Herndon Virginia.
If you weren't in this profession, what profession would you choose? Teaching high school.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I play my guitars, play video games, and I am learning Italian.
Favorite food? Any type of seafood
Favorite movie? (Or one you've seen recently that you loved) Blazing Saddles
What are you reading now (or the last thing you read that you enjoyed)? Ancient Cultures
Share a hidden talent or hobby that your coworkers may not know about. I play golf and play pool.
Please share a fun fact about yourself that might surprise your colleagues. I was a member of the FM singing group Terpcapella which performed at events around campus. We are trying to revive the group now that the pandemic lockdown is behind us, and if you would like to join us, please contact me.
Favorite musical artist, or genre of music? Classic Rock.
What is on your bucket list? To visit Scotland. I have traced my Scottish heritage as far back as 1715 so far.
Are you a cat or dog person (or are you not a pet person)? Dog person, although I don’t have one now.
What's your favorite season and what do you like best about it? Winter. I enjoy the beautiful snowfall.
